Fortune Fishing Mania

Fortune Fishing Mania is an intense fishing simulation game where players must catch a variety of spectacular tropical fish.

Fortune Fishing Mania was a solo developed personal project made over the summer holidays between 2025 and 2026 within a time frame of about three months. With this game I wanted to challenge myself to make something small, polished and fun.

Summary of work and contributions

  • Creation of entire game in Unity using C# Programming.
  • Full implementation of game systems. Including system fish spawn rate system, shop system, player movement and fishing rod interactions.
  • Design of simple easy to pick up gameplay loop.
  • Iterative design through play testing.
  • Creation and implementation of all art assets including 25 unique fish designs and four unique fishing rod designs.
  • Sourcing, editing and remixing of all game sound effects.

Simple and effective gameloop

Due to the self enforced constraint of a 3 month development cycle. Fortune Fishing Mania’s Gameloop needed to be simple to implement with as much time for polish as possible.

One of the main inspirations for this game is the fishing mini-game found in Cruelty Squad (2021). Fortune Fishing Mania uses a similar reaction time based skill challenge.

This simple reaction time challenge is combined with a positive feedback loop. The steps to this feedback loop are as follows:

  1. Catch fish to earn money.
  2. Buy better fishing rods with that money.
  3. Catch better fish with new fishing rods.
  4. Repeat until all fish are caught.

The reaction challenge, the randomness of reward times and the positive feedback loop are all core to why this game works so well.

25 Varieties of fish

Fortune Fishing Mania features 25 unique fish for the player to catch. Each individual fish was modeled and textured by myself.

The fish are divided up into 5 “Tiers” lower tier fish are easier to catch but are not as interesting. Higher tier fish require higher tier fishing rods and are more visually striking and flamboyant.

Part of the appeal of this game is collecting all the fish. For this reason

All of the blender files for the fish in the game.

Renders of every fish in the game.

Successful marketing campaign.

The marketing for Fortune Fishing Mania is the most successful marketing campaign I have run for a game so far. The release trailer has garnered over 6,000 views on my YouTube channel and remains the most popular video on the channel. Several of the shortform content videos gained over 1,500 views respectively.

The main trailer was made in line with the games casino inspirations. Featuring bright flashing onscreen text and an over dramatic voiceover performed by myself.
